Approximate: currency conversion uses static rates (Oct 2026), not a live feed, so results can be a little out. Index contract sizes vary (often 1, 10 or 20 per point per lot), so set yours. Always check with your broker before you trade.

How it works

What risk to reward really tells you

Risk : reward compares what you could lose with what you could make. Entry 2400, stop 2395 ($5 risk), target 2415 ($15 reward) = 1 : 3.

The break-even win rate is 1 ÷ (1 + R). At 1 : 3 you only need to win 25% of trades to break even (before costs). At 1 : 1 you need 50%.

A big ratio isn't automatically better: far targets get hit less often. Your journal shows which ratio works for your trading.

How to use it: pick your market, type entry, stop and target, then add your lot size (or just the amount you're risking) to see the money on each side. Forex example: EUR/USD buy at 1.1000, stop 1.0980 (20 pips), target 1.1060 (60 pips) = 1 : 3, a 3R target.

FAQ

Questions

What is a good risk to reward ratio?

Many traders aim for at least 1 : 2, but the right number depends on how often your setups hit their target. Track it in a journal.

Does it work for sells?

Yes. Put the stop above the entry and the target below. It detects the direction for you.

Does it include spread and commission?

No. Real results are slightly worse once costs are included.
